Remote Lodges and Camps

Land-based visits to the Arctic can be one of the most thrilling ways to experience this extraordinary region of the world. By staying in a remote camp, guests can really immerse themselves in the wilderness and fully appreciate the raw beauty of the Canadian Arctic and the iconic wildlife that resides within it.

Why stay at a remote camp or lodge?

Location. There are few places in the world that give you the opportunity to stay in the heart of true wilderness, to be off-grid.  Arctic Watch Lodge is 50 miles from the nearest town on the shores of the Northwest Passage.  Imagine sleeping a few kilometres from the floe edge, home to narwhal, polar bears and an outstanding landscape with towering granite cliffs and glaciers that glitter under the midnight sun. Accommodation is simple, but not lacking, with hot showers, heated rooms, gourmet meals and service that includes barbeques on the ice, not to mention the experiences available in the field.

What activities are available?

There are outstanding activities available at these remote camps and lodges.  Fully guided excursions might include snowmobiling or taking an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) across the tundra to remote waterfalls.   In season, you can try your hand at iceberg climbing, or set out on foot in search of the King of the Arctic, the polar bear.  Spend a day sea-kayaking alongside the magical narwhal whales or at the Premium Safari Camp get closer still and be submerged in the arctic waters for an unforgettable snorkelling experience.  Heli-skiing, witnessing the Caribou migration at Arctic Haven and Northern lights viewing are just a few more examples of the activities on offer.

What wildlife can be seen?

Despite its seemingly inhospitable environment the Arctic is rich with wildlife both on land and in the water.   The north of Baffin Island is one of the best locations for tusked narwhal and polar bear sightings.  Other wildlife includes:

  • Belugas
  • Walrus
  • Seals
  • Wolves
  • Hare
  • Fox
  • Muskox
  • Birds
  • Caribou
