Day 3

Seal River Heritage Lodge - Guided Tours
Typically, over the next few days, breakfasts will be served at 8:00 a.m. and the day’s tour will depart at 9:30 a.m. Depending on both weather and group interest, the below can excursions are included in your stay:

Marine Tours
Tides and weather permitting there will be at least two expeditions by boat to view beluga whales, seals, seabirds, and polar bears. Marine tours are conducted in large, nine-man inflatable boats, fully equipped with two way radios, safety gear, floatation jackets for each passenger, and a hydrophone so that you can listen to the whale songs.

Each expedition is a half day in order to coordinate with the high tides. Both refreshments and lunch will be served aboard. A high number of whale sightings are expected on each outing. Beluga whales are very curious, social animals and will investigate your presence with courage expressed by few other creatures. Being up-close and personal with these awesome creatures has been life-changing for many people.

Trekking/Walking Tours are included daily.
They range from short jaunts to photographing a passing caribou, to day trips with a picnic lunch. Exploring on foot is one of the best ways to experience the diversity of the Arctic’s flora and fauna. Nesting bird life, fox dens, and wild flowers are just a few of the sights you are likely to encounter. When polar bears are sighted, your guide will advise you about the best way to maintain a safe viewing distance.

Coast by Tundra Tracker
A day trip in one of these custom made vehicles allows guests to cover a good proportion of the Hudson Bay shoreline, whilst searching for wildlife. Lunch is a picnic en route.

Whale Swim and exploration by Zodiac
Take to the bay for the ultimate plunge and join the belugas in their watery world. Dry suits provided.

Wildlife Photography
Your guides have many years of experience in the field both as photographers themselves and working with professional photographers, so can assist in many aspects of wildlife photography both in the composition and the execution of that memorable shot of a lifetime.

Ocean Paddles
There are several sea kayaks and canoes on site for guests’ use at any time. With only the sound of your dipping paddle and the sea canaries this is a wonderful opportunity to be quiet with nature.

Aurora Watching
In the latter part of the season it is possible to catch the light phenomenon. The northern skies are a perfect ballroom for the aurora but remember, the aurora are best photographed with a tripod so if you have one, bring it along.

Bird Watching
150 species of birds visit this area and your expert guides can help locate and identify a wide variety.

Photo Presentations and Lectures
From lectures on Travelling in Bear Country to Wildlife of the Arctic, your local northern adventurers will be glad to share their photos and stories. These conversations provide the opportunity to learn about the Arctic wildlife, landscape, its’ people.

On the shores of the Hudson Bay in northern Manitoba is the small town of Churchill, synonymous with polar bears, but If you are thinking of grubby bears scavenging on the town dump then think again. In recent years the town has cleaned up and embraced the polar bear. Bears are kept well away from the rubbish dump and you can now experience them in their natural habitat congregating in large numbers as they await the return of the sea ice and the chance to hunt. Bears that do wander into town are tranquilised then spend time in polar bear jail before being rereleased, this generally puts them off close human interactions but repeat offenders are flown north deep into the tundra where they are unlikely to encounter humans.  The town is now a hub for polar bear and other Arctic wildlife excursions. If you want to see polar bears close up then this is the place for you, be it from a tundra buggy, from the air or for the most adventurous on foot. Other than bears you can see hundreds of belugas in Hudson Bay, take a walk around the historic fort, visit the Eskimo Museum and the Parks Canada interpretive centre.

"Roxy filled us with enthusiasm and came up with some great ideas for a trip. We liked the idea of a slightly 'off the beaten track experience' and some private bespoke activities and that's exactly what we've had. Thank you!"

"Roxy created a wonderfully interesting route which was the basis for a super trip. She also chose lovely places for us to stay and interesting activities for us to participate in, introducing us to the idea of private guided experiences which we thoroughly enjoyed."
