Tailor-Made Holiday

Okavango Delta and Selinda Concession Safari

9 days

from £5,450pp (excluding flights)

Discover the landscape of northern Botswana, beginning amidst the floodplains of the Okavango Delta, before transferring to the more secluded Selinda Reserve.

  • Search for wildlife in the remote northern reaches of the Okavango Delta
  • Cruise across this watery landscape, cutting through ever-changing reed beds
  • Explore the exclusive Selinda Concession, renowned for its unique spillway
  • Drive off road and at night, in search of the reserve’s more elusive inhabitants

As the rains of southern Africa cascade down on the Angolan Highlands, the water surges south along the Okavango river, before fanning out into a natural wonder that is packed with endemic species and incredible wildlife. Begin here, in the northern reaches of the delta, close to the panhandle – where the water first starts to spread outwards over the floodplains. Stay at Duba Plains Camp, which sits atop an isolated island. Protected from the seasonal floods, it lies within the remote Kwedi Concession.

Around the camp, wildlife is abundant – crocodiles and hippos roam the lagoons and channels. Drive or walk across this fascinating wetland landscape, with boat trips an exciting possibility if water levels are high enough. Away from the lagoons, lions roam the grassy plains, hunting without abandon during daylight hours. Here, a clash between the plains’ indomitable lions and the vast herds of truculent buffalo is always likely; watch as Africa’s biggest cat takes on the continent’s most aggressive herbivore.

From the riches of the Okavango, travel to the seclusion of the Selinda Concession. Tucked away in the wilds of Northern Botswana, this private reserve offers an exclusive, intimate game-viewing experience. The renowned Selinda Spillway cuts through the heart of this unique ecosystem, linking the delta with marshlands of Linyanti. Here, night drives, bush walks and off-road excursions are all possible – making the most of this fantastic landscape. Wildlife abounds, with cheetahs and lions commonly spotted, whilst packs of endangered African wild dogs roam the reserve.

This journey offer seclusion and luxury, amidst some of the greatest wildlife riches that Botswana has to offer.

Depending on camp, activities centre on game drives, mekoro (local dugout canoe) trips, walking and horseback safaris. It is therefore a must for any first time visitor to Botswana.

Jackie Devereux, Travel Expert

"Every part of our trip was the highlight and it is not possible for us to point out just one thing, event or place."

"However, we received a magnificent surprise of a helicopter ride between camps in Botswana which meant a flight over the delta and an opportunity to see the delta and how it is formed. It was a wonderful surprise organised by Jackie and we were both absolutely overjoyed with the opportunity. I do not believe that there was more that could have been done as we had a magnificent trip."

"Jackie was excellent- she listened and was very knowledgeable."
