The first all-suite authentic 166-passenger paddle wheeler in the USA, the American Duchess is a floating memento of the grace and grandeur of the Mississippi River conjured by classic literature.
Boasting contemporary opulence fused with traditional touches, vaulted ceilings and elegant decks, this 83-suite river cruiser carries passengers along America’s famed artery in a vessel that has been reconstructed around a 1995 hull. The gracious paddle-wheeler features a Grand Dining Room, which offers a blend of local flavours and fine cuisine traditions, as well as a more casual and leisurely eatery named The River Club and Terrace.
The vessel is committed to safeguarding the marine environment and seeks to conserve the integrity of the waters, land, air, habitats and cultures through which it travels. By encouraging water conservation, implementing mindful on-shore excursion practises, insisting on minimising noise pollution and running an outstanding marine sanitation sewage treatment plant, the American Duchess operates an environmentally sensitive cruising operation.
While navigating, the vessel is a floating sanctuary that encourages the slow living philosophy of the south. Play card games with fellow passengers, stroll around the decks or simply curl up with a sweet tea and a novel on as the landscape changes.
When docked, a variety of shore excursions are offered that usually involve expertly guided hop-on hop-off bus tours around each port town, allowing you to discover the locations at your leisure. Shore excursions can include visits to museums, churches, distilleries, plantations and city highlight tours amongst others.
In the evening, Broadway calibre entertainment and riveting historical discussions take place on board the American Duchess, where a diverse line-up of guest historians take to the stage to present incredible insights into the culture and heritage of the Deep South and recount tales from the likes of Mark Twain.
Based in the Deep South region of the USA, the American Duchess cruises atop the Mississippi, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers.
