Winter loosens its grip on Kyrgyzstan and the country starts to warm up. Higher mountains may still be snowbound, limiting hiking opportunities but the lower landscapes are lush and green. By late April, spring flowers are in full bloom and roads to mountain passes start to open up.

June marks the start of Kyrgyzstan’s summertime, with temperatures increasing to an average of 27°C. Some camps are starting to reopen, but it can still be cold in mountainous regions. Lake Issyk-Kul is great for exploring at this time with a milder climate. Visitor numbers are still lower as this falls in the shoulder season so it is perfect for exploring without the crowds.
July is the beginning of the peak season across Kyrgyzstan. Mountainous regions over 3000 metres are now accessible, making it the one of the only months you are able to trek through spectacular, pristine landscapes.This is the one of the busiest times of year, so make sure to book well in advance to secure the best accommodation.

As the searing, summer heat dissipates and visitor numbers drop, September is a great time to explore the cities. Glacial melt is high, making it a popular time to enjoy kayaking or rafting. Hiking remains a good option, with less snow around and more predictable conditions than earlier in the season.

Camps close as nomads leave the summer pasture and the days start to get colder towards the end of the month.
