Day 1

Fly London to Rio de Janeiro

As the Brazilians say, 'God made the world in six days, the seventh he devoted to Rio'. This vibrant and lively city is a fun place to spend some time, and offers something for everyone.

Nestled between the mountains and the sea, Rio's natural beauty is unsurpassable. Its magnificent shoreline, with its charming bays and beautiful beaches, is an important part of Rio social life and offers numerous outdoor activities from biking to surfing.

In the mountains above Rio, you will find the Tijuca national forest, the largest natural urban park in the world. The city's eight million inhabitants, known as 'Cariocas', are friendly, carefree people who always seem to find time for the pleasures of good living.

Visit the iconic Sugar Loaf mountain and ride the cable cars to the top. The first cable-car goes to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 200 metres above sea level. Continue in a second cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf which rises 400 metres above sea level and offers a 360 degree view of the entire city.

Day 5

Travel along the Costa Verde from Rio de Janeiro to Paraty

A journey of approx four hours.

Paraty is a small colonial port on a stunning stretch of jungle-clad coast two hours drive south of Rio. The beauty of this town is that it has something for everyone: renovated 18th century colonial architecture, shopping for ceramics and other local handicrafts and a varied coastline of sheltered bays, hidden beaches and private islands. There is also a delightful weekend music scene based on a variety of jazz and blues.

This is an idyllic spot in which to experience a taste of authentic Brazil.

Day 6

Paraty choice of activities and excursions
Day at leisure to explore the surrounding area. A few suggestions for this area - take a schooner trip around some of the islands in the bay, visit the many ornate churches, explore the colonial cobbled streets with art galleries and restaurants, trek to waterfalls and along the old historic gold trail or walk to the town beach of Pontal or to Jabaquara beach.
