Sydney and Lord Howe Island

This holiday to Australia begins in Sydney with a few days to explore the city. Stay in The Rocks area of Sydney, a historic precinct and only minutes’ walk from Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House. During your stay, take a half day cruise around Sydney Harbour, a wonderful way to view the city and its beautiful harbour from the water.

Fly two hours east of Sydney to Lord Howe Island, a World Heritage-listed archipelago located 700 kilometres off the coast between Sydney and Brisbane. This pristine island accepts a maximum of 400 visitors at any given time. Birdlife abounds and the island is surrounded by a reef-fringed lagoon plus the world’s southern-most coral reef. Do as little or as much as you wish with plenty of activities on offer such as swimming, bushwalking, fishing and snorkelling directly from the beach. Fishing or diving excursions at Balls Pyramid, the remains of a once giant volcano, complete a stay at this amazing island.

Hobart and Tasmania's 'Big Five'

Travel south to the island of Tasmania and the city of Hobart, with its beautiful historical buildings, incredible convict’s story, exceptional dining options and spectacular coastline. Finally, spend some time with specialist wildlife guides, Craig and Ben Williams tracking down the ‘Bushies Bakers Dozen’ - five endemic mammals, two species of monotreme, and six of Australia's bush favourites.

All in all an incredibly varied and memorable holiday to Australia.

Day 1

Fly London to Sydney

Sydney, the oldest, largest and (some say) most beautiful city in Australia is memorable for far more than its famous landmarks - the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Created around a dazzling harbour, the city has a relaxed style but manages at the same time to be vibrant and alive with world class restaurants, sparkling beaches, great shopping, clubs and pubs, art galleries and theatre.

Day 2

Sydney Half Day Cruise
Spend the middle of the day on Sydney Harbour, hosted by your skipper. This shared lunch outing is from 10:00 to 15:00 and takes a maximum of eight guests. Your skipper knows these waters intimately and will guide you through Sydney's intriguing history, luxury homes, leafy parks, beaches and landmarks of Sydney Harbour. The cruise will stop for lunch in a quiet bay. At the end of the cruise return to Darling Harbour with time to explore the shops, museums, Wildlife World or the Aquarium before returning to your hotel.

Day 4

Fly Sydney to Lord Howe Island

There is a limit of 14kg checked luggage and 7kg hand luggage per person on flights to Lord Howe.

You will be staying at Capella Lodge, As specified

Day 5

Lord Howe Island
Until its discovery in 1788, Lord Howe remained completely uninhabited and untouched. Today, the island is celebrated as a World Heritage site with its rare collection of plants, birds and marine life and exceptional natural beauty. The listing further acknowledges the high value of large colonies of nesting seabirds, the most southerly coral reef in the world, the remarkable volcanic exposure with its great variety of upper mantle and oceanic basalts and the populations of endangered endemic species, particularly the Woodhen.
Lord Howe Island and its surrounding islets are the eroded remnants of a large shield volcano that erupted from the sea floor about seven million years ago. Marine erosion has reduced the main island to approximately one fortieth of its original size, leaving a spectacular scenic landscape, including cliffs and two volcanic mountains up to 875m high dominating the landscape. Lord Howe Island is perhaps unique among small oceanic islands in that its mountains have sufficient altitude for a true mist forest to develop on their summits. Just 11km long and barely 2km wide, most of the island is covered by natural forests and the entire island is surrounded by a marine park.

You will be staying at Capella Lodge, As specified

Day 6

Things to do on Lord Howe Island
Lord Howe Island offers a wide range of activities, from snorkelling and scuba diving to cycling and surfing. Boat trips, fishing and guided walks with local guides are also available. For the more adventurous, take a guided walk up Mount Gower, a full day walk climbing 875 metres.

You will be staying at Capella Lodge, As specified
