Polar Pioneer

Polar Pioneer was built in Finland in 1985 as an ice-strengthened research ship and for many years she plied the infamous waters of Russia's northern coast. In 2000 she was fully refurbished and has since undergone further cosmetic upgrades to provide comfortable accommodation for 54 guests.

One of the last of the former Russian small research vessels which still service polar waters, this class of vessel has an excellent reputation for polar expedition cruising, due to her strength, manoeuvrability and small number of cabins. The on-board expeditionary staff are renowned for their enthusiasm which will shine through during their informal but informative lectures.

There are a range of cabins from triples with shared facilities to spacious suites, all cabins have a porthole and offer ample storage, a desk and chair.

Triple share cabins, located on the main deck have 2 lower and 1 upper berth, a washbasin and portholes, the facilities are located along the corridor on the main deck.

Twin share cabins located on the main deck have 2 lower berths, a couch, a washbasin and porthole, the facilities are located along the corridor on the main deck.

Twin private cabins are located on decks 4 and 5. They have two lower berths, a window and bathroom with shower toilet & sink.  Two cabins 402 & 403 have an upper and lower berth along with a couch

Mini Suites are located on deck with a double bed in a separate room, foldout couch that can be used as a single bed, TV, video player, windows, desk, table area, fridge, and private bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin.

The Captains Suite is the largest of all cabins, located on deck 5 on the port corner with both forward and side windows. There is a double bed in a separate room, foldout couch that can be used as a single bed, TV, video player, windows, desk, table area, fridge, and private bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin.

WHY WE LIKE

We like the Polar Pioneer as she is one of the few remaining of this class of vessel which a fine reputation for polar expedition cruising, due to her strength, manoeuvrability and small number of cabins.
