Housed in a heritage building in central Kathmandu, the beautiful Yak & Yeti Hotel is steeped in history. Originally the home of the country’s first hotelier, Russian émigré Boris Lisanevich, this elegant hotel incorporates parts of a historic Rana-dynasty palace.

Two more recent wings house the 270 classically-styled rooms, with many of these offering views over the carefully landscaped gardens. Among the dining facilities, the Chimney Restaurant is the Yak & Yeti’s most famous eatery.

Borscht is still on a menu, as a reminder of the hotel’s Russian roots.
