Tswalu Motse lies at the foot of the Korannaberg mountain range, with uninterrupted views across the grasslands of the Kalahari.

The Motse is Tswalu’s original safari camp with nine spacious suites and are private retreats for two or four guests, making this camp ideal for couples or small families. Tswalu offers a true wilderness safari and stands out even in a country packed with fantastic safari options and exclusive lodges.

Why we like Tswalu Kalahari

Indigenous gardens throughout the camp are a haven for antelope and birds, while a waterhole in the front of the main guest area attracts a variety of wildlife, especially in the dry season. The surrounding reserve is truly special and is one of the best places to see African wild dogs, aardvarks, pangolins, black-maned Kalahari lions and desert-adapted black rhinos.

Activities

With guaranteed access to a private safari vehicle, guests have the freedom to explore the remote reaches of the reserve at their own pace. Besides game drives, venture out on a nature walk or horse riding, meet with researchers and resident artists and experience the dazzling night sky on a star-bed. The meerkat experience makes for an unforgettable encounter.

Since the land came under the stewardship of Tswalu, their goal has been the restoration of the desert ecosystem of the Kalahari. Not only this, but they have an understanding that people have always been an integral part of the Kalahari Desert. Tswalu focuses on employing and upskilling people from the local community and has given back through building a school and healthcare centre. By staying with Tswalu, guests directly contribute towards the sustainable conservation of the Kalahari through nature-based tourism.
