Tortilis Camp is a tented camp on the edge of Amboseli National Park with open views of Mount Kilimanjaro, offering one of the most dramatic settings for any camp in the area.
All of the spacious, comfortable tents are designed to naturally take in the views of Kilimanjaro and the sweeping game-filled plains below.
The camp sits within a 30,000-hectare private conservancy that is exclusive to those staying at the camp. Thanks to the camp’s location on the southern edge of the park, it is close to the Tanzanian border and Mount Kilimanjaro.
This location is ideal for photographers – the perfect place to capture that iconic shot of one of Amboseli’s towering tusker elephants in front of a snow-dusted Kilimanjaro, set against lush green grasses and crystal blue sky.
This is a great little boutique camp, with some of the most dramatic views in Kenya. The food is also fantastic, with many of the recipes taken from the owner’s Italian mother.
Tortilis Camp consists of 16 tents, one family tented room and a two-bedroom private house. The canvas tents are all set on solid stone bases with wide thatched roofs overhead. In each of the tents, an en-suite bathroom sits behind the bedroom area and a shaded stone verandah extends in front. The decor is simple and traditional, with an emphasis on comfort and practicality. All of the tents afford views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
The main mess area remains cool in the day, under a simple thatch roof, with the natural stone finish inside softened by rugs and cushions, with lanterns at night adding to the atmosphere. Like the rooms, the mess area is open at the front, with a small decking area from which you can watch the sunrise over Kilimanjaro or spot wildlife as it comes to drink at the camp’s waterhole.
