Take a spiritual journey to the Kumbh Mela and spend a fascinating three to six days experiencing a 2000-year-old pilgrimage whilst comfortably ultra-camping with the Ultimate Travelling Camp.
The only luxury tented camp ‘on location’, Sangam Nivas offers well-appointed en-suite tents. Sangam Nivas also offers a wellness centre, dining tent and a boutique shop. What really stands out is the incredible guiding on offer, which will help the uninitiated navigate their way around the Kumbh.
The Ultimate Travelling Camp has been providing guests with insider access to events and festivals, which until now has been too far off the beaten track for the discerning luxury traveller.
Choose from one of the 17 Luxury or 27 Super Luxury tents (with private veranda). All tents have heating and air conditioning with bespoke furnishings. Services offered to all guests are world-class, with a dedicated butler and a team of chefs on hand to make life as comfortable as can be. The camp has a reception tent and a dining tent, a locally sourced handicrafts boutique, Wi-Fi and docking stations, library and indoor board games. At the dining area, fresh, local and organic ingredients are used to prepare Sattvic, vegetarian and fusion delicacies. The gourmet cuisine, although following the strict Sattvic dietary requirements which also excludes alcohol, will be delicious. All meals are provided at the camp with high tea offered daily.
The guides make it possible to immerse in the entire experiences of the local festival and culture and feel a part of it, whilst keeping guest safety and security at the forefront of their minds. Special photography excursions to the Kumbh Mela can be arranged. Also, arrangements for witnessing the performing of Havans (sacred fire rituals). Without a doubt, viewing the Sangam by boat is an unmissable experience. The Sangam is where the Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers converge with amazing consequences in the colours of the water.
The camp can plan for any special requests if you wish to worship accompanied by a spiritual host, either bathing in the Sangam or special puja ceremonies.
Other experiences are available whilst staying at Sangam Nivas:
The Kumbh Mela was started 2000 years ago and is said to be the oldest and largest congregation of religious pilgrims in the world with the largest temporary city constructed to host worshippers. It is a true photographers paradise. Capture over 50 million people in one place! There will be daily opportunities to walk through the Kumbh to see all the Sadhus and pilgrims. There is scope to interact with spiritual speakers and Sadhus.
There are specific bathing dates during the festival which attracts many more pilgrims. It is a photographer’s paradise, with hundreds of thousands of devotees taking a dip in the holy river. There are seven dedicated bathing dates between January and March. Unfortunately, there cannot be any movement of traffic into and outside of the Kumbh Mela on these dates due to the volume of people in attendance. The festival will be held in Haridwar in January 2021. The Kumbh Mela is held in four different holy places, over 12 years. Theoretically, it should happen every three years in a different place.
On a hill overlooking the Kumbh Mela with a panoramic view and within walking distance to the festival. Reached from Allahabad airport, a 40-minute drive away.
