The Close Hotel

A stone’s throw from Tetbury’s iconic Market House, the Close Hotel dates back to the 16th century, when it was constructed as a private residence. Its fantastic central location means it is within walking distance of the town’s best restaurants, as well as the famous Royal Highgrove Shop.

Although now a hotel, The Close retains the exclusive feel of a Cotswoldian townhouse, with beautifully manicured lawns tucked away behind it. Deck chairs in the garden in the summer and log fires inside in the winter add relaxed touch, which complements the historic surroundings perfectly.

Why we like The Close

Tetbury is a small town, but it still packs a punch. The Close’s central location means that you are at the heart of the action. There are antique shops aplenty to browse – a popular pastime in this market town. Or, if you’re feeling particularly energetic, Gumstool Hill is also very close by. This short, exceptionally steep incline is home to the annual Tetbury Woolsack Races, where participants race to the top carrying a 60lb (27kg) sack of wool on Whitsun Bank Holiday Monday.

Facilities

The Close is home to 20 bedrooms, all decorated individually. The traditional style blends with contemporary elements to create sophisticated but cosy rooms. They all come with large beds and spacious en-suite bathrooms. Views are either of the town centre or the gardens behind.

Below the rooms, there is a stylish bar, with the option to have a drink in the library or – if the weather allows – on the sunny terrace. And meals are served in the Garden Room Restaurant, which looks out over the lawns. Offering a seasonal menu with fresh local ingredients, this is a popular spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Activities

The Close Hotel’s convenient location means it is within reach of a number of popular sights. These include Westonbirt Arboretum, Highgrove Gardens and Chavenage House. It also lies close to walking routes, such as the Monarch’s Way, as well as a variety of beautiful cycling routes.
