Why we like Svatma

Svatma has been authentically restored, managing to retain the connection with Tamil culture, literature, art and architecture but with all the modern comfort and style one could wish for.

Facilities

Part heritage hotel (the main 100-year-old former family residence has been lovingly and painstakingly restored to its former glory) and part newbuild in the style of the original building, the 38 rooms and suites are all unique and are influenced heavily by Tamilian building styles and materials. This comprises fresh, cream washed walls with much use of stunningly polished floorboards, wooden pillars and beams – all of which give it a warm glow. Seven rooms and suites with verandahs are in the main heritage building, the rest is housed in a new building next door. Each room is a really good size and has an ensuite, state of the art but traditionally furnished, shower room.

Along with its aim to impart spiritual strength, the beautiful Ayurvedic spa will aim to revive, re-connect and restore so that you come away relaxed and at peace but enlivened and raring to go. Svatma is tucked away on a quiet lane, opposite a church, in the middle of Tanjore. A stroll out from here is a wonderful experience, as you plunge into the bustling streets of the city. The spacious, well-landscaped grounds provide a lovely sanctuary to return to, with little to disturb you except the noise of birds and the chiming of the church bells. The hotel serves alcohol. It does not serve meat. Delicious Tamilian vegetarian cuisine is the only fare here.
