Songtsam Tacheng is located in a fertile mountain valley in a region of Yunnan populated by minority tribes and local villages.

The nine simple rooms have been decorated in a traditional style using local artwork and furnishings and each has a spacious balcony offering views of the surrounding terraced fields.

Guests can dine on a range of home-cooked meals made from organic ingredients, many grown in the neighbouring villages.

Organic rice is produced from the fields in front of the lodge and the region is well known for the range of fresh vegetables, fruits, local ham, rainbow trout and wild honey. Additional facilities include an outdoor swimming pool.

Why we like Songtsam Lodge Tacheng

This lodge is small and intimate and a world away from some of the other lovely but much more touristy parts of Yunnan. Heading off the beaten track in China can often mean you have to compromise on comfort but here you can experience comfort, wonderful hospitality and culture in a stunning yet remote location.

Activities

Songtsam Tacheng Lodge forms part of a mixed Tibetan/Lisu farming community. Many of the staff are from the surrounding villages so guests often find themselves invited to a cup of tea or even dinner with the family. Take a guided hike, visit a local Naxi village or take a cookery class. Tacheng is also home to the endangered Yunnan golden monkeys who make their home at altitudes higher than any other primate except humans. These monkeys can be seen in the Baima Nature Reserve.
