Simien Lodge is perched high up in the mountains with breath-taking views over the Simien Mountains. Built using local materials to resemble a typical Simien village, the hotel’s 20 Tukel rooms have either twin or double beds, en-suite bathrooms, and underfloor heating powered by solar energy.

There are also two Safari Suites, both perfect for families, and a 16-bed dormitory ideal for larger groups. The restaurant and bar are in a spacious area with a log fire as its centrepiece. Evening meals are generally set menus and during the day the restaurant has an a la carte menu featuring a mixture of Ethiopian and European cuisine.

Why we like Simien Lodge

Simien Lodge offers outstanding activities including mountain biking and trekking. Quality mountain bikes are available or you can walk up the escarpment where you will find forests and grasslands for hundreds of miles. A trek to the summit of Ras Daschen normally takes about six days. Other more modest treks go to Imet Gogo, Bwahit, Geech, Sankabur and Chennuk. Another ‘must-do’ is the hotel’s champagne lunch – trek to the escarpment top and arrive to find a well laid out table, white table cloth and all the trimmings and dine in style at 3,500 metres.
