On the shores of New Britain, Rapopo Plantation Resort overlooks Simpson harbour and Tavurvur volcano beyond. Manicured lawns dotted with fig and coconut trees hide a large swimming pool, spa and 32 rooms with balcony and sea views.

Built on the site of a Japanese fighter airstrip, the hotel is a short drive from Kokopo town, has direct beach access and offers some excellent diving.

Tawali Resort is located in a secluded area of Milne Bay amongst local fishing villages and accessible only by boat. Built on a limestone bluff eighty feet above the water, Tawali means ‘reef’ in the local language and aptly, offers world-class diving. Constructed in wood by local workers and entirely by hand, each bungalow has solar-powered hot water and a private balcony overlooking Hoia Bay. Diving, kayaking, hiking and birding are all available at the hotel.

Walindi Plantation Resort nestles on the shores of Kimbe Bay just metres from the ocean. The owners of this welcoming resort have been introducing visitors to the regions world-class diving for over 25 years. Twelve detached, thatched bungalows are scattered amidst the rainforest gardens along the small black sand beach. Eight smaller plantation house rooms are set slightly back and have shared verandas. The open-air restaurant, bar and deck make the most of the sea views and the small pool is a lovely spot to read a book.
