Nine Skies

Nine Skies is a fully refurbished and traditionally stylish, tea bungalow, now a boutique hotel. Found just outside the charming town of Ella, this bungalow showcases colonial-era architecture with modern facilities and personalised service.

With only five bedrooms, all of which open onto terraces where guests can enjoy the surrounding views, Nine Skies has a charming and intimate atmosphere. Four poster beds, large baths, and afternoon tea on the lawn all contribute to a sense of calm. Days are often spent walking amongst the plantations, visiting waterfalls and valleys. Just a short walk is Demodara Station, part of Sri Lanka’s most scenic train line, giving links to Kandy and Colombo.

The infinity pool is the perfect place for a post-hike dip followed by a homemade Sri Lankan dinner under the stars. Colonial-era towns such as Haputale and Bandarawela are easy to visit, along with the Nine Arch Viaduct. Time must be given to relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere and views of this idyllically located bungalow, making the most of slow travel.
