Perched high on a mountain with panoramic views across the tumbling rice terraces below, Li-An Lodge is an entirely wooden structure.

Built using time-honoured building techniques of tongue and groove with no nails, this charming hotel has 16 traditional style rooms, making the most of the breath-taking views.

A stay here is less about facilities and more about the experience and the location. The lodge does have a charming restaurant offering a menu using local produce and based around the seasons.

Activities

This area of China is home to the Zhuang, Yao, Miao and Dong minority groups and there are several walking trails from the hotel leading to some of the local villages. Dragon back rice terraces are considered one of the most amazing terraces in china and stunning whatever the season; flooded with water in spring, lush and green in summer, golden in the autumn and snow covered in the winter.

Located in the Chinese village of Ping An, perched above the cascading rice terraces of Longji and around two and a half hours from the city of Guilin. On arrival, there is a 30 minute uphill walk to the lodge, with porters available to give luggage assistance.

The design and operation of this holiday was excellent and took us to places that we had hardly heard of. A great experience and opportunity to sample " Old China" before it becomes overcrowded. We were very happy with the whole procedure.
