Set in a private nature reserve spread over a 1000-acre tropical lowland primary rainforest, Lapa Rios is a deluxe jungle hideaway overlooking the point where Golfo Dulce meets the Pacific Ocean.

Unlike other jungle lodges, guests have easy access to a number of palm-fringed, pristine beaches along the coastline. Each bungalow has an ocean view and a wonderful setting with a private deck, outdoor shower and a private bathroom. Admire the view from your private deck, surf the azure waters and discover unusual marine life that thrives in tide pools or search for whales further out.

Why we like Lapa Rios

The Osa Peninsula is one of the most biologically intense places on Earth; despite its size, there is around 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity in just 0.001% of its surface area. Lapa Rios protects 1,000 acres of mostly primary rainforest from logging and uncontrolled development, making it a sanctuary for a variety of plants and animals.

The real luxury here is living and breathing in pristine jungle; once-in-a-lifetime rainforest adventures and wildlife encounters are waiting on your doorstep. Endangered pumas and jaguars hide between the ancient trees, scarlet macaws soar through the skies and humpback whales return to the shores every year.

Activities

With miles of private trails, Lapa Rios Lodge is a gateway to Costa Rica’s natural wonders; highly experienced Naturalist Guides offer an authentic interpretation of the biodiversity in the reserve. Hike through virgin rainforest to untouched waterfalls, taking a refreshing dip in the plunge pools. Experience the rainforest by night and discover a hidden world of nocturnal creatures, take a local medicine tour to learn about traditional uses of various plants and seeds and learn about the marine biology of the Golfo Dulce, one of the only four tropical fjords in the world, as you search for land crabs, starfish and sea cucumbers.

Lapa Rios was envisioned as a project whose objective it would be to protect its endangered surroundings. Today, more than 1,000 acres of primary and secondary rainforest is preserved and the lodge assists in the development of the local community. Since its opening in 1993, Lapa Rios has won numerous awards.
