Hotel Antumalal

Chilean Lake District, Chile

Concealed within a remarkable 14-acre private park, Hotel Antumalal is a boutique property that benefits from its own private beach and staggering panoramic views over Lake Villarrica.

Sculpted from native rock, the on-site spa offers an indoor-outdoor heated swimming pool, a spacious sauna with lake views and a hydro massage pool.

Comprised of 16 rooms, 3 chalets and a Lake House, the cosy accommodations boast fireplaces, natural wood-clad walls, original 1950’s furniture and locally made linen and rugs. Flowers from the garden are dotted throughout the property and homemade chocolates are offered every night.

Aside from the spectacular lake-views afforded by floor-to-ceiling windows and an al fresco terrace, the restaurant is well known in the region for utilising fresh local produce to create a series of innovative yet elegant dishes.

Why we like Hotel Antumalal

The property was originally built in 1944 as a lakeside tea room that not only enticed locals to make boat trips from nearby villages but also attracted the president at the time, Gabriel González Videla. In more recent times, Hotel Antumalal has hosted Queen Elizabeth and Neil Armstrong.

Activities

Embark on a guided tour in the company of a birdwatching specialist and professional photographer, trek through the temperate forests that surround the Villarrica Volcano, bathe in some of the 17 natural hot springs, attempt a challenging volcano ascent or take a drift-boat on the Liucura River.

Immersive Mapuche cultural experiences offer authentic insights into weaving techniques and traditional games, while rafting, husky sled rides, horseback riding, kayaking, seasonal snowshoeing, trail running and rock climbing are available for those seeking more active experiences.
