In one of the South Island’s most spectacular settings, sandwiched between the ocean and snow-capped peaks, Hapuku Lodge offers the chance to stay in a treehouse suspended 10 metres up in native Manuka trees.
Set in a peaceful location in the heart of the rolling countryside, the 1,600 acres surrounding the property include olive groves and the family’s deer farm.
Designed by architects, the lodge consists of 12 rooms including suites and tree houses and the theme of wood, runs throughout. Large picture windows make the most of the views and additional facilities include a relaxed but gourmet restaurant plus a lap pool with views.
Hapuka Lodge offers a unique and cool place to stay, in a wonderful location. We also love their commitment to sustainable practices.
The waters of Kaikoura offer marine safaris in search of whales and dolphin as well as deep-sea fishing and kayaking. For those preferring to stay on dry land, there is horse riding, cycling and hiking. A short stroll down the lane brings you to Mangamaunu Bay, a wild beach known for its excellent surfing.
With strong eco ethics Hapuku Lodge was constructed using largely recycled wood and most of the furniture is handmade. They have ongoing plans to preserve the environment through a number of initiatives including solar power, planting native trees and re-introducing native birds.
Situated a 10-minute drive from the town of Kaikoura and a further five minutes to the local airport. Christchurch is two and a half hours drive away or if arriving by ferry from the North Island into Picton, it is a two-hour drive.
