Set amongst the dramatic backdrop of Nahuel Huapi National Park and a stones’ throw from the charming alpine town of Bariloche, Estancia Peuma Hué is an enchanting eco-lodge at the gateway to the northern Patagonian Andes.
Overlooking the dazzling Lake Gutirrez and nestled within 500 acres of peaceful wilderness, the estancia boasts its own greenhouse, boathouse, horse stables and organic vegetable garden that yields produce harvested from the Patagonian soil for use in delicious locally-inspired meals.
The main lodge houses four rooms that take advantage of the superb encompassing landscape through large windows, and one even boasts a large balcony and an al fresco jacuzzi with mountain views. Additional rooms are housed across a hanging bridge within a four-bedroom lodge, in a couple of cosy two-bedroom private villas, and in the isolated two-person Creek Cabin.
A wellbeing programme brings an option of yoga classes and meditation to guests, while wine-tasting experience and tango classes are available for those seeking an immersion in Argentinean culture.
A socially responsible estancia that voluntarily assists local NGOs and abides by strict self-enforced environmental practises, Estancia Peuma Hué means “place of dreams” in the native Mapuche language. A tender process of rehabilitation saw invasive thorny bushes being removed inch by inch from this formerly damaged valley, and the eventual planting of native vegetation has lead to a landscape saturated with coihue, lenga and ñire trees that foster native species like the Andean condor and black-faced ibis.
Dedicated to social development, Estancia Peuma Hue provides electricity for its neighbours and is committed to helping build their houses and hiring locals. In an area of the National Park formerly destructed by illegal lumbering and fishing, the estancia restored native forest by controlling lumbering and fostering environmental practices in the locals.
Since countless migrating birds choose these 500 acres as their nesting and breeding homes every year, maintaining the purity of the waters and guarding the forests are of the utmost importance. Aside from conscious recycling and rational consumption of water and energy, the estancia is currently in the process of installing a small hydro-electric power plant as a source of clean and renewable energy.
Explore the remarkable alpine scenery on horseback or head out on a hike over one of the estancias numerous trails past creeks and waterfalls. Go birdwatching in the majestic forests, kayak over the calm waters of the bay, or practise mindfulness in the mountains with yoga or tai chi practise.
Estancia Peuma Hué lies at the foot of Catedral Sur and Mount D’Agostini in Nahuel Huapi National Park, just 20 minutes from the charming alpine town of Bariloche.
