Steeped in tradition and exuding the home comforts now synonymous with Argentina’s preeminent working ranches, Estancia Huechahue is a self-sufficient estate nestled within 15,000 acres of scenic Patagonian landscape.
Maintaining deeply rooted traditional values that see horses roaming free, gauchos pacing through the property, and provincial wines circulating the tables, guests at Estancia Huechahue are treated to a quite rare and incredibly authentic experience.
Its 10 simple rooms are split between the main lodge and two garden chalets, and are decorated in an authentic and understated manner without unnecessary embellishments.
Experimental and ever-changing dishes are prepared in accordance with the best produce coming from the garden on any given day and, when combined with homemade dairy products and the ripest fruits picked from the expansive orchard, make for phenomenal gastronomic experiences. An al fresco solar-heated jacuzzi, wood-burning sauna and cold plunge pool ensure that unwinding at the end of an adventure-filled day is never a challenge.
Fire-lit rooms within the lodge serve as gathering places for cosy mealtimes with plentiful wine, seconded only by the authentic Argentine asados that take place around a roaring open fire.
Almost entirely self-sufficient and run by a number of sustainable technologies, Estancia Huechahue is a carbon neutral property that utilises a natural spring water turbine to generate electricity, prohibits the use of fertilisers and pesticides, and takes care to nurture the fragile environment by sticking to specific walking and riding routes.
Since the most spectacular way to explore the barren rolling hills and narrow rocky gorges of the Patagonian wilderness is on horseback, Estancia Huechahue has its own fleet of spectacular steeds that trot to the tops of hills and gallop through water meadows. It is also possible to work alongside the gauchos in cattle herding.
Try rafting on the Chimehuin River with views to the Lanín Volcano, travel to the challenging 18 hole (72 par) Jack Nicklaus course that is 45 minutes away or trek on Huechahue while looking out for guanaco, red deer, wild boar and armadillos.
Due to its proximity to unique ecosystems of the Patagonian Steppe, wetlands, grasslands and a string of endemic forests, Estancia Huechahue is surrounded by more than 200 species of birds that include condors, flamingos and Patagonian kingfishers.
Estancia Huechahue lies in the foothills of the Andes mountains, close to the border of Argentina and Chile border.
