Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley occupies just one per cent of a 7,000-acre conservancy reserve in the Blue Mountains.
Central to the resort’s heritage is the original farmhouse which dates back to 1832 and was visited by Charles Darwin in 1836. The 40 stylish, free-standing villas each have their own swimming pool, double-sided fireplace and private verandah with stunning views of the valley.
An additional swimming pool, riding stables and gourmet restaurant only add to the appeal.
The vast and pristine location has an almost prehistoric feel. This may be why Charles Darwin’s great-great-grandson, who lives in the area, suggests that Darwin’s evolutionary theory first took shape, not in the Galapagos but here in the Blue Mountains. The setting combined with the incredible comfort and facilities makes this a special place to stay.
The Blue Mountains are beautiful, and the setting of Wolgan Valley lends itself perfectly to a range of activities. Explore by 4WD, mountain bike, on foot or on horseback. There are stables at the hotel and mountain bikes are available free of charge to all guests. Guided Aboriginal tours also offer a fascinating insight into their culture.
Wolgan Valley is a fabulous destination for children, with a range of activities to keep them entertained. A Wolgan Rangers program caters for all ages and offers bush survival, fossil hunting, orienteering, archery and yabbying (Australia’s version of crabbing). There are also plenty of chances to seek out the local wildlife with nocturnal wildlife spotting tours and a glow-worm tunnel walk.
The hotel has a strong environmental ethos and has been carbon-neutral since opening.
Located around three hours’ drive from Sydney and nestled between two of Australia’s most prominent national parks, the Wollemi National Park and the Gardens of Stone National Park in the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.

Amy was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful and with a good sense of humour. Our holiday would not have been as successful and enjoyable without her guidance and input.
