Mela Kothi Chambal Safari Lodge is an old colonial-era building which has been lovingly restored by your hosts Anu and Ram Pratab Singh.
Located in a woodland setting the lodge includes 13 ensuite rooms in separate cottages, two luxury air-conditioned suites in the old building and a further two suites in a newly built cottage. All have a verandah or outdoor seating areas overlooking the surrounding rural landscapes.
Mela Kothi Chambal Safari Lodge offers an ideal retreat between cities, allowing time out from the busy Rajasthan circuit and a real home from home. warm atmosphere. A stay here warrants at least two nights, due to the undeniably special location, previously hidden for centuries and accessible now due to the determination of Anu and Ram’s explorations. Our personal highlights are many but a visit to Ater Fort or Bateshwar Temples should not be missed. This area of India barely registers on the tourist circuit which in itself is the joy of Chambal.
The mighty Chambal River is best explored by boat. You are guided by expert naturalists to see the birds and animals in and around the river. Walking safaris can also be arranged on the banks of the river as well as the surrounding farmland, or take bikes out for the day. For a more cultural Indian trip, you can also visit the rural villages around the lodge and nearby sites such as the ancient Bateshwar Temples and Fort Ater, by camel and jeep safari.
Chambal harvests 100% of its rainwater and operates entirely on solar energy as well as a strict waste management process and a no single use plastic policy. Conservationists and owners Ram and Anu have worked incredibly hard to transform the 35 acres surrounding the property into a thriving habitat of woodland, pasture and water bodies. Today, 198 species of birds, mammals and reptiles can be spotted in and around the property.
The lodge is nestled in the Chambal Valley approximately an hours drive from the city of Agra.
