Bamurru Plains is made up of nine spacious and cool safari suites plus the generous Kingfisher suite, all built amongst the savannah bush on the edge of the Mary River floodplains.
Each tent is ensuite and care has been taken to combine a sense of the heritage and culture of the region through local materials and Aboriginal artwork, but without losing comfort levels. The king-size beds are made up with organic cotton and the charming bathrooms with corrugated iron walls have high-pressure showers.
Each bungalow is raised on a timber platform with ample space to relax while watching the resident wildlife. Alternatively, head to the infinity pool where the views over the floodplains continue.
The canvas walls of your bungalow allow you to see and hear the life in the bush, without the bush seeing you. The noises of the night, the flash of lightning on the plains, the rustle of the wind in the trees…it really is a most exciting place to fall asleep!
Dining at Bamurru Plains is all part of the experience, with guests and guides eating together offering a chance to share stories and make friends. Produce is locally sourced and the chef at the camp combines traditional and contemporary recipes to provide gourmet meals with a ‘bush twist’, from kangaroo skewers to mud crab and crispy barramundi. All meals and drinks are included in a stay at Bamurru Plains.
Daily activities are including in a stay at Bamurru Plains and these range from 4WD safaris, air boating, walking safaris, river cruises, bird and wildlife watching and fishing. The area surrounding Bamurru Plains is known for its wildlife and prolific birdlife, from blue-winged kookaburras at dawn to buffalo splashing through the floodplains and the chorus of tens of thousands of magpie geese, after whom the camp is named. The area is also home to many crocodile, wallabies and possum.
Located in the Northern Territories of Australia, just to the west of Kakadu National Park and situated on the Mary River floodplains. Bamurru Plains is reached overland from Darwin in around three hours or by a 30-minute scenic flight.
