Steppes Travel is made by the people who work here. Incredible holidays are made possible because of their vast travel experience and the great enthusiasm they bring to their work.
We carefully select our experts based on their knowledge, companionship and influence, ensuring that you can travel with the most knowledgeable leaders in the field.
The people who lead the way when it comes to those things which matter to us: exploration, the environment, women’s empowerment and education.
Taking its name from the 19th-century painter and explorer Thomas Baines, this secluded camp looks out over the swirling waters of the Boro River. Five spacious bungalows are connected to the heart of the camp by unobtrusive wooden walkways.
Raised above the surrounding papyrus beds, these comfortable suites offer privacy and tranquillity amidst the wildlife of the Okavango.
The thatched-roof-topped bungalows feature four-poster beds, en-suite bathrooms and cooling ceiling fans. Their ingenious design means that temperatures inside remain comfortable throughout the year. To take advantage of the secluded location, beds can be wheeled out onto the deck – for those who want to sleep in comfort under the stars. The central platform incorporates a wide wooden deck, swimming pool and relaxed dining area.
Located within a private concession, Baines’ Camp offers both walking safaris and night-time game drives – activities that are unavailable in the neighbouring Moremi Game Reserve. Excursions by motorboat or mokoro can also be arranged.
This camp offers the unique chance to walk beside semi-habituated elephants – an experience that is available at just one other camp. Have the chance to meet Jabu and Morula, who were adopted by Doug and Sandi Groves, founders of the Living with Elephants Foundation.
As well as working with the Living with Elephants Foundation, Baines’ is an eco-friendly camp that has conservation and impact-limitation at the core of its approach. More than 150,000 locally collected aluminium cans were used to help construct the camp structures, whilst the timber was all sustainably sourced.
We know a thing or two about bespoke holidays – we’ve been creating them since 1989. Take a trip through the Botswana safari holidays that we love today.
