On the banks of the Mae Ping River, just five minutes from Chiang Mai’s main night market, the Anantara Chiang Mai is a sophisticated retreat which was once the headquarters for the British consulate in Chiang Mai.
The 109 rooms, suites and serviced suites all house open balconies or courtyards, some with river views. The 34-metre pool lies along the river in large gardens giving a sense of calm while the three restaurants and bars offer delicious and varied food options from stylish Asian with a river view to afternoon tea designed by a Michelin-starred chef.
The location is hard to beat. If guests want to be in the city, close to the night bazaar and the walled Old Town with its restaurants and former Lanna palaces, then the Anantara has the best spot in town.
Perfectly placed to explore Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second capital and home to some of the most fascinating history. Lanna Palaces, traditional regional architecture and a cuisine quite different from the rest of Thailand. Take a tuk-tuk with a guide to explore hidden nightspots, see the sun bounce off the golden spires of the 700-year-old Wat Phra Singh Temple or venture out of town to the northern hills, home to the traditional villages of Akha and Palong. At the hotel, maybe book a private 90-minute Muay Thai boxing session or learn Thai massage.
The Anantara is a mere 15-minute drive from the airport which is just an hour’s flight from Bangkok or four hours drive from Chiang Rai.
We know a thing or two about bespoke holidays – we’ve been creating them since 1989. Take a trip through the Thailand Holidays that we love today.

Amy Waters is warm and friendly and went out of her way to try and resolve issues and meet any requests. Always helpful, noticing small details, lending a hand and quick to learn what appealed to us, drawing our attention to things that may be of interest.

Paul's knowledge and expertise was invaluable when planning this trip. I told him where we wanted to go and the sort of hotels and things we wanted to do and everything was spot on - more than we ever expected! We will definitely be using Steppes Travel for future trips.
Thailand and Vietnam
Amy really understood the type of holiday we were looking for with a real mixture of accommodation and activities ranging from relaxing to exciting. When I asked for a private pool on the beach that's exactly what she delivered. Amy embraced every request, making sure they blended, giving us something new and exciting at every turn. The ethos of Steppes travel is what will always set you aside. Thank you and keep up the good work.
