Amanjiwo, overlooking the UNESCO site of Borobudur and set in the heart of central Java’s rainforest, is one of the most luxurious and beautifully designed hotels in Indonesia.

Built to reflect 9th-century Buddhist style and set in two crescents, the 36 suites are home to beds on raised terrazzo platforms, sunken baths and thatched-roof pavilions, opening onto private terraces or private pools. Set amongst the rice paddies and banyan trees are tennis courts and an expansive 40-metre swimming pool. Two stylish restaurants and a large wellness spa complete this beautiful hotel.

Activities

Visiting Borobudur is an obvious must but Amanjiwo’s setting in Java’s dramatic landscape make it the ideal location for walking or trekking. Walk up the steep flanks of Mt Merapi or into the lush Menoreh Hills, following paths through villages, clove plantations and rice fields. Visit the culturally diverse Yogyakarta, home to silversmiths, former Javanese palaces and quirky markets.
