Positioned on a hillside above the picturesque islets of Ago Bay the hotel embraces the ancient Japanese tradition of onsen (mineral hot springs) and the culinary traditions of this gourmet region.

Activities

Aside from the plethora of cultural and UNESCO World Heritage Sites to visit in nearby Kyoto, there are a wealth of wonderful things to experience near Amanemu.

Head onto the waters of Ago Bay to watch the sunset. Alternatively, fish with an expert angler before taking your catch back to the hotel, where the Amanemu chefs will turn it into the finest tempura and sashimi for your evening meal. Explore the history of Ago Bay, from the pearl rafts and oyster divers; ama, female free divers have resided in Ago Bay for centuries and still dive for shellfish, seaweed and sea urchin today.

Away from the coastline, it is possible to head into the hills to trek some of the UNESCO World Heritage-designated Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails. The nearby holy Ise Grand Shrine is wonderful to explore with an expert guide to witness a prayer session and dance.
