With expert guidance, these dogs will be your faithful hounds for the duration of the trip. The silence of the Arctic wilderness is broken only by the panting of the dogs and the scraping of the sled runners against the snow.
Spend two full days travelling across the Arctic wilderness on expeditionary routes that are dependent on the strength of the ice. The first day will be spent mushing through valleys and mountains before spending the night on the ice in tented wilderness accommodation.
Stay at Isfjord Radio, once an important radio station for the region and now a charming boutique lodge. From this cosy base, adventure out on to the ice and perhaps take a dip in the Arctic Sea.
Begin the journey in Longyearbyen, a small mining town and the administrative centre for the Svalbard archipelago. With just one main street where locals get around by skidoos, it is fun but a slow-paced place. In the evening, see how the bars liven up with off duty miners and visiting tourists alike.
