Making A Difference

Making a difference both locally and globally is engrained in all that we do at Steppes. Each time you travel with us, we donate £5 to a local charity in the UK and £10 to an international charity.

As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary, to date we have raised over £1 million for conservation, environmental and humanitarian projects. Looking to the future, Nick, our Chairman, and Justin, our Managing Director, are united in their belief that their generation hasn’t acted quickly enough in the face of world issues.  Nick continues, “In my lifetime I have seen the world evolve and open up. Sadly not always for the good, and remote regions are becoming increasingly vulnerable.”

Our goals are simple - to preserve,  to conserve and to educate.

Steppes Travel offers numerous expert-led group tours highlighting the need to preserve historical and archaeological site around the world. Our incredible portfolio of expert led group tours sums up what we are all about. There is expertise, insight and behind-the-scenes access.

Many of our trips involve the opportunity to meet experts in the field. You can trek to the Manu Biosphere in Peru to discover one of the most bio-diverse places on earth to spend time with Crees a not-for-profit organisation based in Manu. It strives to improve the future of the Amazon through conservation and community projects and understanding how to help the local people preserve the region’s spectacular forests.

Conservation is always at the forefront our our mind when creating our wildlife group tours. At times, our clients can quite literally roll up their sleeves and really make a difference when on location working with a charity. These projects include darting White Rhinos in South Africa, and working with AfriCat’s vets on the Annual Big Cat Health Examination in Namibia.

“We need to educate our children now to become custodians of the future, to respect the world we live in and to take ownership on how the world might evolve.”
 - Nick Laing, Chairman Steppes Travel

Local Charities

We have decided to support two local based charities Home-Start Cotswolds and The Churn Project, donating £5,000 to each.
Home-Start Cotswolds provides friendship and practical help for young families to help them cope with the stresses and strains of life.
The Churn Project helps a breadth of people in the community with a variety of much-needed services from older people to the unemployed.

War Child

Abroad we have chosen to support War Child, which provides life-changing support to the most vulnerable children whose families, communities and schools have been torn apart by war in countries like Uganda, Iraq, Syria and the UK.
In October 2014 we were delighted to present them with a cheque for £7,780 to contribute towards their very worthwhile and much needed work.

Send A Cow

As part of our event with Lewis Pugh, we were proud to support Send A Cow which tackles poverty in farming families in Africa where 70% rely on their land to feed families.
The event raised over £4,800 and will have a direct impact on building a confident and thriving rural Africa, village by village, country by country.

Restless Development

Working in Africa and South Asia, Restless Development is an international development charity with a difference, ensuring that young people create the long lasting change in their own communities.
They do this because although half the world is under 25, it is young people who are consistently the most affected by the biggest problems facing the world - unemployment, poverty and lack of access to education and health services.

World Land Trust

"The money that is given to the World Land Trust, in my estimation, has more effect on the wild world than almost anything I can think of.”
- Sir David Attenborough.
Each time our Steppes staff travel across the world we offset the carbon emissions of our long haul flights by using World Land Trust’s Carbon Balanced Programme. We encourage you to do the same, if you are able.

''I hope that my children and the next generation do a better job of looking after the world and its resources.”

- Justin Wateridge, Managing Director Steppes Travel
