Tadoba

As an introduction, you will spend the first three nights based at a comfortable eco-lodge in Tadoba. Tadoba is often referred to as India's secret tiger park. Explore by jeep and gain an insight in to the landscape and wildlife of the region. Tadoba management is proactive in offering new experiences for visitors and now includes walking trails in the buffer area and kayaking on the Irai Lake beside the park boundaries. Furthermore machaans and hideouts are planned at some waterhole This is a unique opportunity to spend time in prime tiger country and the trip will appeal to those who want to get off the beaten track and gain an overview of the diverse wildlife of the region. Set amongst some of the most rugged and unexplored wilderness, this trip represents Central India at its very best.

Pench

A five-hour drive brings you to Pench National Park at the foot of the Satpura hills. Pench is home to the Asiatic leopard and is still one of the best places in India to spot this creature. The dam in the park is a favourite spot for bird watching. Spend the next three nights at Jamtara Wilderness Lodge. The camp is the only one located on the Jamtara Gate side of the national park, giving guests an enhanced wildlife experience due to its seclusion and the opportunity to cover a more diverse area of the jungle. Walk in the buffer zone with the resident expert from your lodge. Tadoba and Pench both offer a free zone for driving without set routes. When on safari you are able to follow alarm calls without any restrictions.

Kanha

Kanha National Park in the heart of Central India is the finale on this tiger circuit. Kanha is considered by some, as India’s greatest park and provides a diverse habitat to support many mammal and bird species. The densely forested hills of sal and bamboo combined with grassy plateaus and extensive meadows in the valleys, make an attractive setting for a safari. When not on safari, spend time with the Singinawa Foundation and take part in daily activities involving the local communities. Kanha is one of India's two parks that run a Village Guardian initiative.

The journey to Tadoba National Park will take approximately three hours.

In the heart of Central India and two hours south of Nagpur, is the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, one of India’s most exciting and best protected tiger reserves, undiscovered, and with excellent tiger sightings reported regularly.

Dominated by teak forest and bamboo, it’s a rugged landscape comprising cliffs, caves, marshes, perennial lakes and boulder strewn streambeds that cater to a host of biodiversity, not least the tiger, which number from 75 to 100 by last count, including 24 cubs born in 2015. Tadoba has a series of camera traps set up around camps that continually monitor the comings and goings of the local wildlife. As the waterholes dry up in the summers and the grazing areas diminish in the upper reaches of Tadoba, herbivores like the gaur descend to the Chighghat Valley and can be seen in abundance. A leopard has been regularly sighted around the Khatoda Meadows. This area is also frequented by six tigers including the dominant male tiger Crooked Tail and the newest entrant, the Halleghat male tiger.

Tadoba management is proactive in offering new experiences for visitors and now includes walking trails in the buffer area and kayaking on the Irai Lake beside the Park boundaries. Furthermore machaans and hideouts are planned at some waterholes.

Later this afternoon take a game drive in Tadoba National Park with a naturalist.

Each day return to the lodge around midday for lunch. Some time to relax before heading out into the park again around mid-afternoon, returning at sunset.

Day 6

Tadoba NP to Pench NP

Drive to Pench National Park, a journey of approximately five hours.

Pench, on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, has been known through the ages for its rich flora and fauna. Named after the river that flows nearby, Pench was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1983, though it had been declared a notified area in 1972. In 1992 Pench was included under the umbrella of Project Tiger as the 19th Project Tiger Reserve.

Pench is home to the Asiatic leopard and is still one of the best places in India to spot this creature. The dam in the park is a favourite spot for bird watching. Other wildlife spotted here are chinkara, wild dog, sloth bear and jackal. Visitors also now have the option to visit the Maharashtra side of the Pench Reserve, which is often less crowded and is growing in its reputation for sightings of a host of animals and bird species.

Visitors view wildlife by jeep in morning and afternoon game drives much like other parks. Pench has a good reputation for tiger sightings and is less crowded so the overall safari experience is more personal.

Walk in the buffer zone with one of the resident experts. Return to the lodge for a welcome dinner

You will be staying at Jamtara Wilderness Camp, Full board

Day 7

Morning and Afternoon Game Drives in Pench National Park
Whilst at Pench, wildlife viewing into the National Park will be by Jeep. Nature walks are also an option in the buffer zone.

Day 9

Morning Game Drive
Morning game drive inside Pench National Park. The park is home to tiger, leopard, sloth bears, plenty of deer, langurs, and many bird species.

Drive from Pench National Park to Kanha National Park (Road Journey)

Two hour transfer from Punta Teonoste Lodge to Mombacho Volcano.

Kanha is considered by some, as India’s greatest park and provides a diverse habitat to support many mammal and bird species. The densely forested hills of sal and bamboo combined with grassy plateaus and extensive meadows in the valleys make an attractive setting for a safari. The sheer size and remoteness also means that Kanha is often less busy than other parks and now that vehicle numbers are limited and advance booking is recommended, it offers a superior safari experience. Kanha is home to barasingha, chital, wild boar, sloth bears, jungle cats, wild dogs, leopards and the Bengal tiger.

Under Project Tiger, Kanha was divided into two major zones; the inner core and surrounding buffer. Approximately 25% of the reserve is accessible for tourism. Three entry gates service the reserve: Kisli on the western side received the most attention in the 1990's and has witnessed a boom of hotels and lodges; Mukki in the south, is a quieter gate with a handful of lodges, and Sarhi in the north has just opened to encourage vehicle dispersal.

It is estimated that the reserve is home to 114 tigers, which given the size of the area, is a reasonably healthy population.

Morning and afternoon safaris are undertaken by jeep and you are accompanied by an English speaking naturalist (usually employed by the camp you are staying in) and an official park guide who you collect at the entrance to the park. Their English generally isn’t very good but they have the sharpest eyes and a very tuned ear.

This evening take a nature trail to learn about the reforestation work done in the buffer zone

You will be staying at Singinawa, Full board

Day 10

Activities at Kanha National Park
Enjoy both a morning and an evening jeep drive inside the reserve. Leave the lodge at around 5:45 am with a picnic breakfast, you will stay in the reserve until midday, when it closes during the hottest part of the day. Return to the reserve when it opens again mid afternoon and stay there until dusk.

These are, of course, all optional - and there may be times when you may wish to relax - but it goes without saying that the more you do, the more you'll see.

You will be staying at Singinawa, Full board

Day 11

Morning and Afternoon Game Drives
Each day enjoy morning and evening jeep drives inside Kanha National Park. Leave the lodge after early morning tea/coffee at around 5:45 am with a picnic breakfast. Mornings are often cold inside the forest and slowly warm up as the sun rises. Blankets will be provided from the lodge to keep your legs warm. You will stay in the reserve until midday, when it closes during the hottest part of the day.Time for lunch and a swim before returning to the reserve when it opens again mid afternoon and stay there until dusk.

Activities from Singinawa
There is a host of alternative activities at the lodge. Take a cycle trip to nearby villages, spend time at Singinawa Foundation and visit a school supported by Singinawa. The Kanha Museum of Tribal Arts has recently opened, showcasing indigenous Gond and Baiga tribal work.

You will be staying at Singinawa, Full board

Day 12

Drive from Kanha National Park to Raipur (Road Journey)

Two hour transfer from Punta Teonoste Lodge to Mombacho Volcano.

Fly Raipur to Mumbai

Formerly known as Bombay, Mumbai is a city teeming with culture, architecture and people. Famous for its diversity, this vast metropolis has suffered from religious tensions during recent years, but this has done little to limit the surprisingly liberal attitudes of many 'Mumbaikars'.

Having boomed as a port during the 18th and 19th century, Mumbai is rich with colonial architecture, whilst towering contemporary structures underline the city's recent prosperity. Contrasting strongly with these are the city's slums, which make up large parts of this modern city and serve as a reminder of the mixed fortunes of its residents.

Day 13

Day at leisure in Mumbai

You will be staying at Leela Hotel, Bed & Breakfast

Day 14
